Shagbark Hickory

​These large trees are one of the trees I would like to see planted more often in Minnesota. This native tree prefers moist soils but is adaptable to many differet soil types and sites.  They have distinct bark that make the tree readily identifiable. The nuts of these trees are also edible. The wood is also used for smoking food
