European Buckthorn
The European buckthorn tree can be seen throughout Minnesota's forests. It originally was planted as a landscape accent shrub but soon escaped and is now one of the most invasive trees in Minnesota. Eradication is especially hard since the seeds are dispersed by birds and the trees will readily regenerate if only cut down. The bud arrangement is technically sub opposite. (Dirr)
