Amur Maple
The Amur maple (Acer ginnala) is a small tree that is native to China. In parts of Minnesota it is considered to be invasive. It can be distinguished by its reddish brown buds, 3 lobed leaves that are serrated, yellow/white flowers and the red to brown paired samaras. The bud arrangement on the Amur maple is opposite, this means that the buds will appear opposite from each other, as well as the twigs.
This tree has been seen to grow in zones 2b – 7a, has a pH tolerance of 4.5 – 7.3, and is intolerant of salt spray and salt in the soil. It has an intermediate shade tolerance and can tolerate dry areas or drought conditions.
